Seven Wonders of the World: Vote for Chichen Itza

The editors and staff of MayanHoliday.com support the efforts to make Chichen Itza one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The great Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, currently listed with 21 other finalists in a worldwide contest, is one of the most popular attractions to the more than five million tourists that visit Cancun and the Riviera Maya each year.

MayanHoliday.com would like to encourage its readers to vote for the archaeological zone of Chichen Itza as part of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World campaign, which ends July 7, 2007.

To vote, visit new7wonders.com and follow the instructions.

Chichen Itza, located in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico about three hours from Playa del Carmen, is the most famous Mayan culture site and was the political and economic center of the Mayan civilization. The pyramid of Kukulcan itself was the last, and arguably the greatest, of all Mayan temples.

As one of the twenty-one finalist candidates in the campaign to choose the New Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen Itza competes alongside great monuments such as the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum and the Taj Mahal.

Other finalists include the Acropolis (Greece), Alhambra (Spain), Angkor (Cambodia), Christ Redeemer (Brazil), Easter Island Statues (Chile), Hagia Sophia (Turkey), Kiyomizu Temple (Japan), Kremlin (Russia), Machu Picchu (Peru), Neuschwanstein Castle (Germany), Petra (Jordan), the Pyramids of Giza (Egypt), the Statue of Liberty (U.S.), Stonehenge (England), Sydney Opera House (Australia) and Timbuktu (Mali).
