As a preventative measure against an outbreak of the Swine Flu, officials in Playa del Carmen and surrounding areas have ordered the temporary closure of bars and clubs. The Expo Tequila 2009 has also been cancelled, since many of the expected attendees are no longer coming to the area since they have had to cancel their trips.
The closure order applies to bars and clubs accommodating up to 80 people, including such popular locations as Reven, Coco Bongo, Dubai, Cielito Lindo and Mambo Cafe.
The bars and clubs are to be remain closed, "for the duration of the epidemiological emergency."
