Mayor Against More Tulum Hotels

Mayan Ruins of Tulum Perched Above the Caribbean - MayanHoliday.com
TULUM BEACH, MEXICO, February 15, 2006 -- With an eye to the future, the mayor of Tulum Village, Jorge Luis Pech, spoke out against the construction of hotels in and around the Tulum Mayan ruins international park.

"We need to maintain the ruins area free of development, to better protect the environment and surrounding area," he said. "We absolutely do not want to over-develop and start to lose the character that makes the area so attractive."

The mayor stated his goal of growing the Tulum community in a way that is in harmony with nature and benefits both the local population and investors.
