Blue Parrot Requests Fire Show Permit

The Famous Blue Parrot Fire Show
PLAYA DEL CARMEN -- The Blue Parrot bar on the beach in Playa del Carmen is seeking a return of its license to host nightly fire dancing shows. The bar and club was almost completely destroyed in a massive blaze sparked by an errant fireball on January 20, 2006, and remained closed for weeks. Although, thankfully, there were no injuries in the fire, it did point out a weakness in the community's ability to fight beachfront fires. The episode prompted an immediate cancellation of the bar's fire show license and initiated an effort to install fire hydrants along the beachfront zone.

Though of course safety is the primary consideration, the editors of MayanHoliday.com are hoping the council approves the bar's request to return this wonderful tradition to the Playa nightlife scene.
