NEWS ALERT -- Tropical Storm Ernesto
UPDATE, August, 26, 2006 -- This storm has weakened and is heading toward Florida. It is no longer considered to be a threat to the Yucatan Peninsula, including the Mayan Riviera.
MIAMI, August 26, 2006 -- As of 4pm CDT, Air Force aircraft indicated a central pressure in Tropical Storm Ernesto of 997 MB and winds of 60 knots. The storm is expected to move west-northwest near Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. The forecast track is very uncertain, but it is possible that the storm could strengthen significantly and strike the Riviera Maya or pass through the Yucatan Channel by late Tuesday and enter the Gulf of Mexico.
Travelers are advised to watch the storm closely and consider changing their travel plans if it looks like the storm could affect the areas to which they are traveling. Airline and hotel policies differ and some may not allow changes without a fee.
