News Flash - No New Cruise Dock for Playa

MayanHoliday.com
The Playa del Carmen Hotel Association has voted down an effort to convert the town’s municipal dock into a cruise ship dock. The group was concerned that increased cruise ship traffic would cut into existing tourism, leading to shorter stays and less revenue.

Authorities point to Cozumel as an example of this dynamic. On that resort island, where cruise ships make up a major portion of overall tourism, only 900 hotel rooms have been added in the last 10 years, while in the Riviera Maya, more than triple that number have been added in just the last year.
