PLAYA DEL CARMEN -— Several more PGA TOUR champions recently committed to compete in the Mayakoba Golf Classic in the Riviera Maya on February 19-25 of this year.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen, along with fan favourite and winner of the 2005 Players Championship Fred Funk, will be coming to play in Mexico’s first official PGA TOUR event.

Earlier, major championship winners Mark Calcavecchia, Jeff Sluman and Steve Elkington indicated plans to participate in the $3.5 million event. Past PGA TOUR champions John Cook, J.B. Holmes and Dean Wilson have also added their names as possible competitors in February.

“With just over five weeks until tournament week many aspects of the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun are starting to take shape,” said Tournament Director Larson Segerdahl. “One of those is seeing stars of the PGA TOUR focusing on this region and we are certainly proud some of the game’s finest players are making plans to play.”

George McNeill, winner of the 2006 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, has also committed. McNeill won what many consider to be the toughest tournament in professional golf last December by a record-tying five strokes. The victory earned him a full-year exemption on the TOUR and he will be one of the most watched rookies in 2007.

Another rookie in the field is Mexican Open Champion Fabrizio Zanotti. Zanotti, a 23-year-old from Paraguay was 9-under-par in the 72-hole championship and won by one shot. He was given a sponsor exemption by the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun.

Also included in the field will be four open qualifiers through an Open Qualifying Tournament to be held at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Playa del Carmen on Monday, February 19, 2007.

Greg Norman, the course-designer and winner of over 90 worldwide golf tournaments, is also expected to be present for this premier PGA TOUR event.
