COZUMEL, March 2, 2006 -- Scuba-divers rejoice; the Iberostar Cozumel has re-opened with a new lobby, refurbished rooms and expanded dining and entertainment facilities. The hotel had been closed since August, following Hurricane Emily and then was further damaged by Hurricane Wilma in October.

The 306-room hotel is located on the west coast of the island of Cozumel and features one and two-story bungalow-style buildings surrounded by tropical gardens. The thatched roofs over all the guestrooms have been reinforced with a double layer of protection against the elements. Each room is well-equipped with private shower, air conditioning, ceiling fan, hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, safety deposit box and mini-bar. All rooms have a terrace or patio with hammocks for relaxing on lazy afternoons.

The buffet restaurant located central to the property has been expanded and now features one of the most extensive buffet-style menus on the island of Cozumel. The massive Palapa roof over the buffet restaurant has also been reinforced and air-conditioning has been added to sections of the dining room. In addition to the two existing specialty restaurants, the hotel complex is opening a third restaurant at the end of March. The Star Rock Café offers casual dining in the evening and then turns into a sports bar and disco for the late-night crowd.

One surprise benefit of the storms from last year is an expanded white sand beach at Iberostar Cozumel offering guests a wider area of powdery beachfront to stretch out and soak up the sun.
