News Flash -- Massive Hotel Project Approved

Officials have given the go-ahead for the construction of a new hotel project in the Riviera Maya that could add as many as 3,500 rooms. The resort will be called Hotel Senator Beach and will initially open with 1134 rooms, but could eventually operate as many as 3500 if everything goes according to plan. More than $80 million will be invested in the first stage.

The company behind the project is Caribbean Soliman Development Group, which already has another hotel in construction in Cancun, also operated under the Senator Beach brand.

This new development will be north of Tulum, between Xel-Ha and Punta Soliman, which many travelers know as the location of Oscar y Lalo’s restaurant. It will operate as an all-inclusive resort, with rooms spread out in buildings of 18 rooms each. Each unit will have a living room, separate bedroom and in-room Jacuzzi.
