NEWS FLASH - Security Cameras for Playa
The municipal authorities in Playa del Carmen have announced plans to install security cameras in various points throughout the city, including the busy Fifth Avenue pedestrian zone. The cameras will be monitored by local police and will be used to locate and confirm threats and to thwart crime.
Though it's another in a long string of signs that Playa isn't a little fishing village any more, the added security will certainly be nice.
Just for the record, though, MayanHoliday.com editors were recently walking the streets of Playa at 3am, with a very calm sense of security. Even if crime isn't high, anything that makes locals and tourists feel more safe is fine by us.
